ft.com plan to alter the way subscribed readers access the database in the near future. For TCD-affiliated users, this means that once on the site, they must sign up for an account both to search and read the articles and to take advantage of new functionality on ft.com.

The new functionality makes it possible for Academic staff and MBA students to annotate articles, paragraphs within articles, images and make those annotations visible to students, to everyone or keep them for themselves - whichever they choose.For example, a lecturer may make his list of annotated articles available to a group of students for reading before a lecture/seminar.

It will also be possible to organise relevant articles into different folders and follow other annotators to see what they are reading.

The important thing to note is, that it will be a requirement for all ft.com users in TCD to sign up for an account, using their @tcd.ie address, in order to use ft.com. At the moment ft plan to implement this change in the near future but no exact date has been fixed.
