This collection offers a comprehensive survey of the original writings of the Hungarian reformers. It includes texts from the period of the first stirrings of reform in the 1540s through to works written for the established churches of the region during the 1650s.

It is edited by Dr. Graeme Murdock of the Department of History in Trinity College Dublin.

RSC and ebooks

Not all books published by the RSC become part of the RSC eBook Collection.

There are a number of reasons for this, such as not having the right to publish a book in digital format or other contractual issues.

This is the case with the 2nd Edition of Nanochemistry, for example, which includes material from other publishers.

For a list of books not included in the RSC eBook Collection, click here.

AMADEUS and FAME

AMADEUS and FAME
Bureau Van Dijk Electronic Publishing (BvDEP) provides detailed, analytical, commercial databases for in-depth research on company information. Trinity Library subscribes to two of BvDEP’s databases: the pan-European database, AMADEUS and the UK/Ireland-specific database, FAME.

Since 2008, TCD readers have spent over 135 hours on the AMADEUS database and more than twice that time consulting FAME. According to Bureau Van Dijk’s statistics, these readers have been looking at detailed reports for over 46 thousand companies. Reports include contact information, credit score and rating, names and addresses of directors and a lot more.

AMADEUS contains financial information on 11 million public and private companies in 41 European countries. FAME provides access to detailed company information for about 2.8 million UK and Irish companies. It also provides summary information for a further half million smaller businesses. On both websites, users can check the currency of the data by using the ‘Support’ tag and the ‘About’ heading to find the ‘last updated’ date.

According to information provided by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC UK), FAME is used by the major accountancy firms to produce the majority of transfer pricing reports and Amadeus is a popular database for European companies. The format of these databases, both for searching and for the reports is consistent across the two databases.

The HMRC website draws attention to some areas of concern in the use of commercial databases. It notes, for example, potential issues with two key criteria, i.e. business descriptions, which can be subjective, and SIC codes, (grouping companies into sectors) which can be misleading for various reasons, as outlined by the HMRC. There is a very helpful guide entitled Constructing a search model on the HMRC website, which uses FAME as the searched database. The guide is at the base of the HMRC page.

AMADEUS and FAME are not the only business databases subscribed to by the Library. Directed access to specific Business and Economics e-resources is available from the Library website’s Business subject guide page, created by the Library‘s BESS Subject Librarian, Ruth Potterton.

All TCD Library subscription databases can be found on the Library website in the Search Collections box and under the title: Databases and e-Books .

EMBASE

Summary of EMBASE article.

The complete article by David Mockler, Medical Librarian on the subject of EMBASE may be read in the April issue of SETH research newsletter.

EMBASE.com

EMBASE.com is an Elsevier database, essentially the European equivalent of PubMed.

In addition to the roughly 11 million EMBASE records from 1974 onwards, EMBASE.com also includes over 7 million unique records from PubMed/MEDLINE from 1966 on, thus allowing both databases to be searched simultaneously.

There is an overlap in journal coverage between EMBASE.com and PubMed. The actual degree of overlap varies widely according to the topic but studies comparing searches of the two databases have generally concluded that a comprehensive search requires that both databases be searched.

Some standout features of EMBASE.com are that its coverage of pharmacology and drugs is superior to that of PubMed. It also includes English/foreign language journals and selected conference proceedings not included in PubMed’s coverage.

For full article see SETH research newsletter, April 2009 issue.

Library Research newsletters: SETH and AHSS

Just a reminder that two newsletters are produced by the Library, collated and distributed by Jessica Eustace, SFI Research Support Librarian: the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS) Research Newsletter and the Science, Engineering Technology & Health (SETH) Research Newsletter.

These newsletters contain short contributions on specific research resources and tools provided by the Library. They appear monthly and are distributed by email. If you are not in receipt of these and you would like to be, please contact Jessica Eustace. Back issues are on the Library website homepage.
