New Resource: Loeb Classical Library

Loeb Classical Library [Harvard University Press. September 2015, access 'in perpetuity' purchased.]

The written treasures of the ancient Greek and Roman world. James Loeb founded the Loeb Classical Library in 1911, to make the work of classical authors accessible - regardless of knowledge of Greek or Latin.

Since 1989, a renewal plan founded on the publication of four or five new volumes a year has been in place. This plan includes titles new to the Loeb Classical Library (such as Chariton), completely new editions and translations (such as Euripides), and thoroughly revised editions (such as Homer).Greek and Latin texts are alongside English translations.

The authors in the Loeb Classical Library span fourteen centuries and every genre. Editors and translators are drawn from both sides of the Atlantic. New titles are added to the series, while existing titles are continually reprinted so that the complete Loeb Classical Library always remains in print.

NEW PLATFORM: Digital National Security Archive (China and the U.S.) is now available on ProQuest

DNSA: China and the United States: From Hostility to Engagement, 1960–1998
DNSA: U.S. Intelligence and China: Collection, Analysis and Covert Action
The above resources are now available on the ProQuest platform.

This means they can be cross-searched with the other Social Sciences group on ProQuest, or with all the TCD ProQuest databases.

The legacy (Chadwyck-Healey) version of DNSA will remain available until late summer, 2015, when the site will be shut down and redirects will be turned on.

The new, direct links to the ProQuest versions have been added to the bibliographic records. The old link is also still available there and will be until the site closes down.

MyArchive Content:  Users who have created a MyArchive account will need to move any saved searches and documents they wish to retain over to their MyResearch account on the ProQuest platform. Instructions on how to accomplish this and/or how to create a MyResearch account can be found here

New database: Heritage of the Printed Book Database (HPB) formerly Hand Press Book Database

[Free under the agreement with CONUL (Consortium of National and University Libraries) - Oct. 2014]
The HPB Database (previously called the Hand Press Book Database) is a steadily growing collection of files of catalogue records from major European and North American research libraries covering items of European printing of the hand-press period (c.1455-c.1830) integrated into one file. This makes it possible for information to be retrieved in one single search across all files.

As the digitisation of collections in contributing libraries progresses, more and more catalogue records point to digital presentations of the early printed books. The HPB Database is of interest to librarians and any one else with academic pursuits across many fields of study that use printed books as source material. It is especially valuable for research in intellectual history, social history, and transmission of thought, as well as in the history of printing and the history of the book.

It may be accessed for information retrieval and downloading by CERL member institutions, their staff and users.
