IReL and eResources

TCD Library eResources are funded from different sources. A portion is nationally funded through the IReL consortium.

IReL is the Irish Research eLibrary, an electronic research library. Its aim is to support researchers in Biotechnology and Information Technology and researchers in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The IReL consortium includes all the Irish Universities apart from QUB and UU.

IReL provides peer-reviewed, online research publications: journals, databases, index and abstracting services and ebooks.

A list of IReL-funded resources is to be found on the IReL website.

If you are off campus you must link to these resources via TCD Library’s website so as to gain access.

All TCD Library eResources (IReL and all others) are to be found in the information resources section of the Library's website.

CIG training

The CIG group now includes Proquest, CSA, Chadwyck Healey, COS, Factiva, Safari, and Serials Solutions products.

CIG run regular online presentation webinars on the full range of products and these are open to anyone to attend at no cost. These are run globally, largely from the US, but also 10 a month from the UK to cover a different range of time zones.

Training calendar of online webinars

Irish Times Historical Archive available via Proquest Historical Newspapers platform

IReL has funded access to the Irish Times Historical Archive via the Proquest Historical Newspapers platform.

The Historical Irish Times (1859-2007) offers full page and article images with searchable full text back to the first issue of both the Irish Times (1859-2006) and the Weekly Irish Times (1876-1958).

Access via the Proquest interface makes the database easier to use: stories that originally spanned multiple pages of a newspaper now appear as one continuous image. Each newspaper page is zoned into article images; each newspaper image is supported with searchable ASCII text. Combined, these two features mean faster, more effective searches.

Researchers can sort their results by oldest, most recent, or most relevant. Users can view and download articles, front pages, photos, display ads, and more in PDF format. The “My Research” summary feature can be used to save articles, email documents, create a bibliography and export citations.

The Irish Times can also be cross-searched with The Observer and The Guardian.

Finally, off-campus access to the Irish Times will now be possible without the need for a special Irish Times login anymore.
